Counselling Supervision
I can offer integrative supervision to counsellors and students as well as those practicing in other caring professions.
My integrated model of practice is based on a foundation of a strong therapeutic relationship that develops through our sessions. I use psychodynamic themes to explore development, attachment, and family dynamics. I use systemics to explore the rules and dynamics in the relationships clients grew up in, and the difficulties they are experiencing in their current relationships. I use cognitive methods to explore processes and goals, as well as humanistic and experiential strands to explore life, dreams, and the university of life!
My areas of experience include working with individuals and couples with relationship or other issues, working with addictions including alcohol, drugs, gambling, or porn, and the issues behind them; working with trauma and abuse; and dealing with the issues of change, loss, or terminal illness.
I enjoy my supervision and get a lot out of it. It is a relational environment for me, a place for support, development and learning. In presenting my clients, I feel they are brought into the room, that they are understood, and they will be enriched by the process. My supervisor explores the client issues I present, and also explores the gaps in what I leave out. Good supervision is done for the client’s benefit, as well as my own awareness and development.
All counsellors need support, and supervision should be a reliable time for them to share their practice, their thoughts, and their hopes and fears. I feel greatly supported in my supervision, both on professional and personal levels. I would hope that my supervisees feel the same.
I think it is important to be able to work in whatever style suits the supervisee. In working with my supervisees, they present and discuss their client work, we explore what is going on for the client, as well as what the client may be bringing out in them. I aim to develop an equal relationship in supervision, encouraging expression of your viewpoint, as well as having the congruence and right to challenge mine!
So what sort of supervision would you get? It would be integrative but shaped to fit into your style of practice, it would be respectful and confidential, it would be challenging and supportive, and it would be human, fun, encouraging.
Supervision rates are £45 per hour or £65 for 90 minutes. Hourly supervision for trainees is £45 for day time sessions
